Cesar Lima, who has joined the ranks of the finest living Cape Verdean guitarists, will play songs from his latest CD, Reflections. Blending traditional Cape Verdean musical styles with contemporary arrangements, Reflections showcases Lima's refined guitar techniques in a collection of melodies executed with ease and grace. Lima was raised on the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde and studied with such renowned musicians as Luis Morais, Vasco Martins and Bau.

Lila Ellen Gray, Columbia University Lila Ellen Gray is an ethnomusicologist, cultural anthropologist and musician. Her research interests include: poetics, performance, gender, urban cultural studies, and the anthropology of sound and aesthetics. She is currently working on a book on fado performance based on twenty-two months of field research in Lisbon conducted during 2001-2003. She holds an MA in music and a PhD in cultural anthropology from Duke University and is currently an assistant professor of music at Columbia University.

Vocalist Valdisa Moura is a dynamic performer with a gorgeous voice and effortless stage presence, who embodies that most elusive and enchanting aspect of Brazilian music, a sort of relaxed intensity, that has long attracted music lovers from all over the world. Moura's repertoire includes the music of her native Northeastern Brazil, well-known bossa nova standards, samba, and MPB (Brazilian popular music). She's backed by a talented multinational band that brings a variety of other influences, especially jazz, into the mix.

Marilynn Mair is a mandolinist who, through her technical mastery and artistic interpretation, has established the mandolin in chamber music circles worldwide. She has performed internationally for over two decades, appearing in concert throughout Europe, North America, and the Far East. She has given hundreds of recitals, including performances at Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Newport Music Festival, Lincoln Center, Tivoli Concert Hall, the Palffy Palace, the Kennedy Center, and the Banff Centre for the Arts. She has also represented the United States at international music festivals in Italy, France, Spain, England, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Japan, earning the title, "First Lady of the American Mandolin." Marilynn has released a number of highly-acclaimed recordings, including "Nadando em Luz / Swimming in Light: A Century of Brazilian Mandolin."

Margaret Sarkissian received her PhD in music (ethnomusicology) from the University of Illonois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993 and is currently an Associate Professor of Music at Smith College. She is the author of D'Albuquerque's Children: Performing Tradition in Malaysia's Portuguese Settlement (University of Chicago Press, 2000).

André de Quadros is Professor of Music, Director of the School of Music at Boston University. A Goan, he has strong connections with Portugal and the former Portuguese colonies and India. As a conductor, he has performed extensively in Australia, Europe and South East Asia. He has published widely in the field of post-colonial Asian choral music.
