The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

Facts and Fictions of António Lobo Antunes

October 31 – November 1, 2003

Facts and Fictions of António Lobo Antunes was devoted to the Portuguese novelist recently considered by the New Yorker as "one of the most skillful psychological portraitists writing anywhere." He was recognized recently in Paris by the Latin Union with the most prestigious prize that the organization awards, a testament of the importance of his work in international literature. The journal Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies will publish in spring 2004, a selection of the proceedings from the colloquium. The conference was organized by Professor Victor J. Mendes of the Department of Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth and was sponsored by the Instituto Cam?es, the Fundaçao Luso-Americana, and TAP Air Portugal.
