The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

Museum of Azorean Emigration

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth announces a presentation by Mr. Rui Faria,  coordinator of the Museum of Azorean Emigration in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores, titled “Azorean Emigration Museum: Need and Purpose.” 

Mr. Rui Faria, will outline the factors that led to the creation of the museum and describe its history, mission, and programs.  The presentation will also include photos and tables that will provide an overview of Azorean emigration and its characteristics.

The presentation is organized by the UMD Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, and will take place on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 12:00 - 1:00 PM in Room 212 of the Liberal Arts Building.
