The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

Biographical note for Rosa Maria Sequeira

Rosa Maria Sequeira is Professor of Portuguese at the Open University of Lisbon. She received her Ph.D. in Literary Theory and has conducted extensive research in the areas of contemporary literatures of the Portuguese-speaking world, the teaching of Portuguese to foreigners and literary theory. She is the author of A imagem da cidade na poesia moderna: Cesário Verde e Fernando Pessoa (1990) and O Poder e o Desejo⎯O ensino da literatura a estrangeiros na universidade (2003).
