The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

Tagus Press at UMass Dartmouth, in partnership with the University Press of New England (UPNE), announces the publication of two new issues of Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies: Lusofonia and Its Futures (PLCS 25) and Literary Histories in Portuguese (PLCS 26).

Lusofonia and Its Futures (PLCS 25 ), edited by João Cezar de Castro Rocha, presents a nuanced and critical study of the concept and history of Lusofonia from a variety of theoretical approaches. In addition to focusing on this theme, Lusofonia and Its Futures includes fiction in translation by writers from several countries in the Lusophone world as well as scholarly essays on such topics as the reception of the English novel in Brazilian literature and of Fernando Pessoa in Brazil. Contributors to this volume include Bethania Mariani, Luís Madureira, Vincent Barletta, Walnice Nogueira Galvão, Jacinto Lucas Pires, Sandra Guardini Teixeira Vasconcelos and writers Mario Araujo and Evando Nascimento.

Literary Histories in Portuguese(PLCS 26), also edited by João Cezar de Castro Rocha, reflects on the problem of literary history in the Lusophone world with an emphasis on theories of literary history and of literary history and empire. In addition to this thematic focus, this special issue features sections dedicated to critical essays, reviews, and fiction. Contributors to this volume include Remo Ceserani, José Luís Jobim, Monique Balbuena, Jobst Welge, Paulo Moreira and writers Carola Saavedra and Michel Melamed.

Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies is a multilingual interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal published semi-annually by Tagus Press in the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The journal addresses from a range of critical and theoretical approaches the literatures and cultures of the diverse communities of the Portuguese-speaking world. João Cezar de Castro Rocha, professor of comparative literature at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and currently Visiting Professor at Princeton University, is Editor in Chief of Portuguese Literary & Cultural Studies.
