Film Description
Every year, during the Saint Anthony night, the most typical Lisbon neighborhoods compete against each other in traditional folk parades. This documentary follows the preparation of this event in a neighborhood community, Bica. The documentary is filmed from the folk perspective, exploring the neighborhood’s quotidian life and the significance they attribute to this event.  The film suggests that this event is not only fabricated for the media and tourists, but also strengthens the feeling of belonging to an urban neighborhood.

Films are selected and presented by Professor Frédéric Vidal, the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies of the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture.
