Film Description
Every year millions of tourists come to Portugal, and mostly to Lisbon, to discover the country, the people and its culture. Many come in contact with tour guides that structure their view of Portugal. Through tourism and the discourse produced by tourist guides, a selective history and national identity is constructed. This film proposes a critical examination of that history and of how the Portuguese regard themselves and wish to be presented to others.

Films are selected and presented by Professor Frédéric Vidal, the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies of the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture.
