Tagus Press, the publishing arm of the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, announces the publication of Fernando Pessoa as English Reader and Writer, edited by Patricio Ferrari (Brown University) and Jerónimo Pizarro (University of the Andes, Colombia).

Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, publisher, and philosopher Fernando Pessoa was one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century. With his digitized private library now online (thanks to Ferrari and several others), the importance of English to Pessoa has become indisputable. Numerous English authors served as the foundation from which his poetic sensibility emerged, developed, and soared, and many of his writings (including those attributed to his heteronyms and/or to other literary personae) were greatly informed by these original sources. Fernando Pessoa as English Reader and Writer provides ample evidence of his fruitful, lifelong relationship with the English language.

Please join Brown University's Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies, the Providence Athenaeum and the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at UMass Dartmouth for a Salon and Book Launch of Fernando Pessoa as English Reader and Writerat the Providence Athenaeum (251 Benefit St., Providence, RI) on October 2, 2015 starting at 5:00pm. The program will feature literary scholar Patricio Ferrari in conversation with Onésimo Almeida, George Monteiro and Susan Brown. The event is free and open to the public.
