The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

The Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is seeking candidates for the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies for the fall semester of 2016. Established in 2001 by the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture, the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies allows for the hire of a distinguished scholar, professor and/or author, specializing in the vast and varied Portuguese-speaking world comprised of over 220 million people in eight countries on four continents.

The Endowed Chair is a rotating visiting distinguished scholar program that supports the interdisciplinary graduate/undergraduate program in Portuguese Studies and the research objectives and various publication series of the Center. The Endowed Chair will teach one graduate course during the fall semester (September 7-December 12, 2016) and will deliver one or more public lectures in his/her area of expertise. The selected candidate may also contribute a paper to one of the publication series. The rate of compensation for the period is $50,000USD (before taxes).
