The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

The Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture in partnership with Brown University invite you to attend a lecture by Professor José Manuel Fernandes, PhD entitled: Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism in Portugal – Present Days (Arquitectura e urbanismo contemporâneos em Portugalos dias de hoje).

Professor Fernandes is a Professor of History and Architecture at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. His lecture will present a general view on the most recent architecture produced/ built in Portugal or by Portuguese architects – based on works/projects conceived and built during the last 5 years.  

The works that will be showcased are among those having an important role in social context and community use; works covering a large geographical area in Portugal, Atlantic islands, International projects; works showing diversity of typologies & formal issues, different generations of authors; and works presenting high quality in terms of aesthetics, constructive and functional aspects.
