The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture / Tagus Press is a multidisciplinary international studies and outreach unit dedicated to the study of the language, literatures and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking world. Working in close partnership with the Department of Portuguese and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, it is the oldest of these units devoted to Portuguese at UMass Dartmouth.

The Making of Portuguese in New England, a Documentary series between the First and the Second Editions

Our distinguished, guest lecture, native of California and an acclaimed director, Nelson Ponta-Garça, will be at the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

After a sold-out first edition, the second edition of Portuguese in New England, a bilingual documentary featuring the history of ten generations of Portuguese immigrants to New England and part of the Portuguese in New England series, showcases Portuguese American communities across the United States. The TV premiere of four episodes is coming soon in more than a dozen countries where the Portuguese diaspora is present. This comprehensive historic overview of a unique and vibrant ethnic population contains unprecedented and never-before-seen footage and interviews. The series captures the full scope and essence of the Portuguese contribution to the American society.
