About the Editor

João Filipe de Alencastro is emeritus professor, Université de Paris Sorbonne and a professor at the São Paulo School of Economics–FGV. He is the author of O trato dos viventes: formação do Brasil no atlantico sul, seculos xvi e xvii (2000).
